Glaucoma is a chronic and progressive ocular disorder characterized by optic nerve damage that may lead to irreversible visual impairment. Intraocular pressure (IOP) control is an essential component of glaucoma management. The effectiveness of pharmacological therapy is closely associated with patients’ adherence to the prescribed use of topical ophthalmic medications. Appropriate patient education regarding the acquisition, use, storage, and disposal of medications may support adherence and contribute to optimal IOP control. The DAGUSIBU educational approach provides structured information regarding the proper management of medications, including eye drops. This study aimed to determine the effect of education on adherence to eye-drop use through the DAGUSIBU leaflet on changes in intraocular pressure among patients with glaucoma. A quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group design was conducted in June–July 2026 at Mayapada Hospital Tangerang. Twenty-four patients with glaucoma were recruited using purposive sampling and allocated into an intervention group (n=12) and a control group (n=12). Intraocular pressure was assessed before and after the intervention in the right eye (OD) and left eye (OS). Statistical analyses were performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, paired-samples t-test, and Mann–Whitney U test, as appropriate. In the intervention group, the mean IOP in the right eye decreased from 17.92 mmHg at baseline to 11.08 mmHg after the intervention, representing a mean reduction of 6.84 mmHg. In the left eye, the mean IOP decreased from 16.08 mmHg to 12.83 mmHg, representing a mean reduction of 3.25 mmHg. Conversely, in the control group, the mean IOP increased from 18.42 mmHg to 20.83 mmHg in the right eye and from 15.83 mmHg to 21.42 mmHg in the left eye. Between-group analysis using the Mann–Whitney U test demonstrated statistically significant differences in IOP changes between the intervention and control groups for the right eye (p=0.0037), left eye (p=0.0001), and the combined change in IOP of both eyes (p=0.0003). Education on adherence to eye-drop use through the DAGUSIBU leaflet was associated with a statistically significant difference in changes in intraocular pressure between the intervention and control groups. The DAGUSIBU leaflet may be utilized as a supportive educational medium to promote appropriate eye-drop use and support intraocular pressure management among patients with glaucoma.Downloads
