Hypertension is one of the leading risk factors for cardiovascular disease, with a continuously increasing prevalence. Macronutrient intake has been suggested to be associated with hypertension; however, existing evidence remains inconsistent. This study aimed to compare macronutrient intake between hypertensive and non-hypertensive patients at Air Dingin Primary Health Center, Padang. This observational analytic study employed a case-control design involving 100 participants, including 50 hypertensive and 50 non-hypertensive patients selected through consecutive sampling. Macronutrient intake was assessed using a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ), and differences between groups were analyzed using the Independent Samples t-test. The hypertensive group had significantly lower protein intake (p=0.001) and significantly higher fat intake (p=0.046) than the non-hypertensive group, whereas carbohydrate intake did not differ significantly (p=0.111). In conclusion, protein and fat intake differed significantly between hypertensive and non-hypertensive patients, while carbohydrate intake did not. These findings suggest that macronutrient intake should be considered in the nutritional management of patients with hypertension.
